Getting Started
Our professional practice sessions each intervening spring and fall, are usually held in New York City or other large cities where students take advantage of the multiple visual, historical, and professional resources beneficial to the art director, graphic designer, illustrator and art educator. Visits to museums, the Society of Illustrators, Art Directors' Club, AIGA, major advertising agencies and studios of well-known illustrators and ad designers expand the students' knowledge of "the greats" in the field. Classroom experiences are provided in New York at various art schools where many celebrities in the professional meet with students to share their know-how and to critique student work. These include artists, agents, illustrators, art directors, book designers, publishers, etc. These pros, when listed, sound like a Who's Who of the communication business in America. Valuable contacts are a result of these experiences. All the teachers who teach within this program are not only award-winning, nationally and internationally recognized professionals, but also excellent teachers with years of teaching experience. Our past sessions have included visits with R. O. Blechman, Seymour Chwast, Paul Davis, Stephen Doyle, Milton Glaser, Rodney Greenblat, Steve Heller, Brad Holland, Mirko Ilic, Maira Kalman, James McMullan, Matt Mahurin, Rafal Olbinksi, Robert Sabuda, Paula Scher, Ed Sorel, Ultra Violet, and Dan Yaccarino.
